High Point launches DVD label

LONDON -- High Point Media Group has moved into the U.K. distribution arena with the launch of its DVD label High Point Entertainment. The new label will specialize in world cinema and feature-length docus, and while it will initially tackle the home entertainment market, the group plans to expand into theatrical distribution. Its first release will be Hanro Smitsman's debut feature "Skin," toplining Robert de Hoong ("War Horse") as a troubled youth drawn into the emerging skinhead movement of the late 1970s. Pic is skedded for a June 13 DVD release. High Point will also release Kay Mellor's romance, "A Passionate Woman," toplining Billie Piper, later this year. The move into distribution comes during a restructuring of High Point's core management team including the appointments of Ronald de Neef as non-exec chairman, and Elisar Cabrera as board director, who will also head up High Point Home Entertainment. Cabrera, former director of sales and marketing at High Point, will be also be responsible for developing new and emerging distribution platforms for High Point to exploit.
