Feedback from visitors to this year?s Cliffhanger festival shows that more than 20,000 people attended over the gloriously warm and sunny weekend, with more travelling further than ever before to get to the event.
The field in the Bouldering World Cup final was bigger and more competitive than ever with 81 competitors from all around the world battling it out in front of a packed-out marquee.? The wall itself was the biggest single-span artificial bouldering wall ever built and wowed both competitors and officials visiting the event.? The men?s Guinness World Dyno record was broken for the 5th year running on the Saturday by visiting American Skyler Weeks who had come over especially for the competition. The women?s record was also broken by local climber Lily FitzGibbon.

Cliffhanger?s reputation is spreading beyond Sheffield.? A quarter of visitors travelled more than thirty miles to get to the event (up from 18%) with the average distance travelled more than thirty miles.
And though Cliffhanger attracts the world?s best climbers, it?s not just for climbing fans.? Nine out of ten of our visitors are walkers, two-thirds are cyclists, half enjoy camping and more than a third are runners.

Our new sports of bike polo and disc golf were a hit.? There were never less than 20 people taking part in the Cliffhanger special Ultra-Sprint Orienteering course and thousands watched the mountain-bike stunt displays.
In the run-up and during the event Cliffhanger proved an online hit with Heason Events facebook page and twitter accounts attracting nearly 1,000 fans and followers each.? 300 people tweeted #cliffhangersheffield over the weekend.? And film-maker Alastair Lee?s video teaser received 8,500 hits.
Festival Director Matt Heason says:? ?A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Cliffhanger this year.? We?re delighted that 98% of visitors said they?d come again and recommend it to a friend.?
?The atmosphere was amazing.? It was a real pleasure to see so many families with young children having a go at everything from scuba diving, climbing and slack-lining to gentler pursuits like duck racing and wicker-work.?
?If you didn?t make it this year, take a look at what you missed on our website (www.cliff-hanger.co.uk) where we?ve posted videos of climbers, skate-boarders and bockers as well as photo galleries.? For the latest news on next year?s event as well as the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival follow us on facebook and twitter?
?We?re not resting on our laurels.? We commissioned an environmental audit from Sheffield-based consultancy ?Sustainable Balance? so we?ll be looking at how we can reduce waste and our carbon footprint at next year?s event.?
Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: ?Yet again Cliffhanger has proven a great success and major tourism draw for both Sheffield and Yorkshire. The fact more visitors are travelling further to enjoy this amazing event shows the quality and variety of entertainment on offer.?
