Lesedi FM playwright, Mojela Mobidi, has trumped up his efforts to assist Free State artists to reap the rewards of their hard work.
In order to do this, Mobidi made major advances when he managed to somehow successfully persuade the wayward department of arts and culture to fulfil its obligation of safeguarding the interests of all artists in the province.
?As an artist I had to stand up and fight for what is rightfully ours. I was tired of seeing fellow artists go hungry, whereas we have all the resources,? said Mobidi.
Mobidi told The Weekly that he had noted that the department has a tendency to express inexplicable affinity to certain preferred artists, at the expense of many more who are left in the cold.
?That is what prompted me to take it upon myself to become an agent for Free State artists.?
?The department does not fund us; all they do is organise events for which we allocate the artists. They pay the artists who in turn pay us,? added Mobidi.
Mobidi, who runs Mojela Mpiti Film Making Entertainment, has since vowed that Free State artists will never sleep on an empty stomach.
?My company works as an agency; when (the department of) arts and culture hosts events they contact me and I will find suitable artists to perform.?
Mobidi, who has appeared on numerous local television dramas as an extra, has had his fair share of disappointment in the industry.
?In this industry you have to constantly be on the look-out, it is no child play. The industry can either make you or break you,? he said.
He urged other artists to contact him so they can access what is rightfully due to them, that is, the respect, recognition and reward.
?We don?t mind visiting artists at their work stations, but it is better when they contact us so that we can thrash out something. I don?t want to be a bad man who looks after his artists only; I also want other artists to be part of the success.?
?Our plan is to reach out to artists in the entire Free State; our company is not just an agency it?s a production company,? concluded Mobidi.
